Singapore skyline at 6:14am in the morning
Photography is an art that depends heavily on light, and not just the quantity of light, but the quality of it that is available. You can go back to the same place again and again at different times of the day and I can guarantee you will not take exactly the same picture twice, because of the differing amounts and quality of light, the one thing we take for granted every morning.

First light breaking over Singapore, 6:20am
This post was to be about photography, about how I had to wake up at ungodly hours of the day (night, actually) and travel to the location by 6am just so I was able to catch the first light.

Singapore skyline at 6:34am. As you can see, the light changes FAST.....
But photography has, as often, mirrored life itself. As I was penning this post, I had the sudden realization, a revelation if you will, that the quantity and quality of light also depicts the different seasons of life that each and everyone of us is in. Some of us are mired in darkness, unable to see ahead into the future (and I write this not just with head knowledge, especially during this period of my life, but with experiential awareness). For others, daybreak is dawning; and for yet others, they can be in their prime, where the brightness of day shine mightily upon their lives.

6:42am - the sky takes on a nice shade, and the waters remain still. As you can see, the merlon has started sprouting water from its mouth!
As I stood a few days ago by the Singapore river, watching the first light dawning over the horizon and lifting the veil of darkness, I was overwhelmed by the speed at which the light changes, concerned about getting the picture, if you will.

Dawn breaking over Singapore at 7:07am - a new day has come
But as I looked at the pictures, I was reminded of this verse from the bible, in the book of Psalms:
Weeping may endure for a night, But joy comes in the morning.

The dawn will come in due season. At least, that’s what I tell myself every time….
